Shelterbelt program is now open for orders!
County residents can order:
- Many varieties of shelterbelt tree seedlings
- Hemp squares for mulch
- "Planting for Pollinators" package.
This year, shelterbelt trees are only available through our new online store! If you need help purchasing your trees online, call the County of Barrhead at 780-674-3331. Check out available tree varieties & descriptions on the 2026 Tree Catalogue.
Limited quantities available - order early to ensure the best selection! This program is open to County of Barrhead residents only.
Benefits of a Shelterbelt
Planting a shelterbelt can provide many benefits and serve multiple functions. For example, a shelterbelt planted:
- Along a crop field can prevent soil erosion and trap snow to increase moisture
- Around livestock operations can help manage farm odour, dust, and other air emissions
- Around a farmstead can protect from high winds, minimize snow drifting in winter, and increases pollinator & wildlife habitat
