The dunes are stabilized with jack pine-lichen forests, and there are a number of small lakes within the Reserve.
Camping permitted, on a random-camping basis, with no developed sites.

Find more information on the Holmes Crossing Sandhills Ecological Reserve on the Alberta Parks Website, or on the Alberta Environment & Parks Website. For Park Information call Alberta Parks at 780-960-8170, or Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) Regional Whitecourt Office at 1-780-778-7153.

Klondike Trail
This section of trail was originally built in 1824-25 as a portage trail to connect the North Saskatchewan and Athabasca Rivers, and was revived as a section of the Klondike Trail running from Edmonton to Dawson City during the gold rush of 1897-98. While parts of the trail still exist, very little of it is open to the public. One private landowner has graciously opened up the portion of the Klondike Trail found between Lac La Nonne and the Pembina River, off of Secondary Highway 651 to hikers. This section is only about 3 km long, a tiny portion of this former long distance trail.
