PTSD Awareness Day
June 27, 2026

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can occur to anyone after experiencing or witnessing one or more traumatic events. PTSD and other trauma or stress related disorders are complex, but they are treatable.

County of Barrhead recognizes that anyone can develop PTSD, and first responders such as firefighters, peace officers, and paramedics are at an increased risk due to the nature of their jobs. Further, large-scale community events that endanger property, public safety and human lives can have lasting effects on individuals and communities.

Raising awareness and engaging communities about PTSD can reduce stigma and improve community well-being. National PTSD Awareness Day is an one such opportunity to address the stigma that can be a barrier in seeking effective support and care.
