Gravel Extraction
Sand and gravel are significant natural resources that contribute to our society and to our economy. The extraction of aggregate (sand and gravel) resources is vital to the growth of the County. Readily available supplies of aggregate are essential for development of County roads, buildings, and various infrastructure on which our County is built.

Identifying ideal locations and mitigating operational impacts to neighboring residences was key in developing the Resource Extraction Strategy. Two public open houses were held and attendees were invited to share their knowledge and ideas with County Council, Administration, Steering Committee members, and the project team.

Information gathered at these open houses brought forth many considerations that helped guide the vision and were important factors in the creation of the County's Resource Extraction Strategy.

Through the creation of the Resource Extraction Strategy its intended purpose is to better inform future changes to the land use bylaw and how gravel extraction is permitted and located within the County of Barrhead.
