Agricultural Service Board
The goals of the Barrhead Agricultural Service Board are to enhance
the health, welfare, and economic status of the farm families within
the County of Barrhead #11 in ways that promote responsible use
of natural resources.
The Agricultural Service Board is involved in a number of programs
to fulfill the above goals. These are:
Weed and Brush Control
This program involves controlling restricted and noxious on public
and private property, using the most effective and environmentally
sound means possible. We control trees and brush along the roads
as well for safety purposes and maintenance.
Extension
It is the mandate of the Agricultural Service Board to present the
residents of the County with current information, new technology
and new legislation as it becomes available. To this end, we arrange
seminars, workshops, and tours to provide this information. We communicate
with Government Agencies to provide information on behalf of the
farming community when legislation is being developed.
Pest Control
The Agricultural Service Board works with landowners to control
coyote, beaver, pocket gopher, grasshoppers and other pests with
what resources are available in accordance with the legislation.
Conservation
This program is extensive in water and soil conservation. It involves
work with soil and water quality and erosion through use of seminars,
tours, plots, shelterbelts, awards, tax incentive programs, etc.
We work with numerous organizations in developing new ideas and
improving on old standbys. Developing ways to improve the profit
margin of our products is imperative for the survival of the farmer.
