Twinning ceremonies with the Town of Tokoro, Hokkaido,
Japan

On July 4, 1991, the County of Barrhead, jointly with the Town
of Barrhead, entered into an agreement with the Town of Tokoro,
in the Province of Hokkaido, Japan, for the establishment of sister
relationships between the communities. The official twinning document
was signed by Mayor Kazuo Inoue (Tokoro), Reeve George Visser
(County), and Mayor Bill Stutchbury (Town).
Barrhead representatives travelled to the Town of Tokoro to sign
the 1991 agreement. In July 1995, the 5th anniversary celebrating
the twinning relationship was held in Barrhead.
Barrhead sent a display of locally produced and manufactured items
for the twinning ceremony in Tokoro.
The County of Barrhead is also twinned with
Baw Baw Shire, in
Victoria, Australia, as of September 1989. The County continues to
correspond and foster connections with both communities.
